4 Stars Good, easy and difficult
I looked at several, read the reviews and decided on this one for the price. I agree that a cover for the connector woud be a good thing, but you get what you pay for, neh? It’s intended use is dictating with Dragon Naturally Speaking. I dictate both in my office on a Dell Inspiron Laptop and at home on a Dell XPS PC both running XP Pro. Installation on the laptop was a horror. It would freeze in the middle. I had to uninstall the software and reboot the computer. The problem was that Wincomm would not recognize that a Bluetooth device was connected to the computer. After the reboot, I would edit the registry and delete the references to WINCOMM and reboot, then try the installation again. I think I did this six times before I tried shutting down the wireless and Norton 360. Nesxt install seemed to go better, but still couldn’t get it to recognize the BT device. Nesxt try was successful and the wizard set up and paired with the headset. I had installed Dragon 10 (was using Dragon 9) and was dismayed to find the mic wouldn’t work. Sent an email to tech support and got a reply the next day. The tech had reviewed Dragon online and said that I needed to use software that would go thru the sound card. I said that I thought if the sound got the the apeakers, then it was going through the sound card. Reply to that was that Dragon must not support mic and I should get headset, BT adapter and voice recognition that all supported each other. Hmmmm. Then I tried to install it on the PC and was surprised that it went without a hitch, ran the wizard, paired with the headset and listened to music. Then I installed Dragon 10 (update from 9) and during the setup wizard of Dragon got to the step in the wizard where you pick the source of sound. Lo and behold a Bluetooth unit was one of the choices and I COULD dictate with the mic. Ran the wizard on the laptop again and now it’s all running like a champ. The quality of the sound is good, but I guess that has as much to do with the headset as the dongle. Range was good in the home, could walk downstairs and still listen to the music. If I weren’t a bit of a geek and persistent, I would have given up on the laptop. Tech support was responsive, but I can’t blame him for not not knowing the ins and outs of a program he isn’t familiar with. His advice was sound about compatible components, just missed that Dragon does give you a choice. I would recommemd this unit to a friend and hope the install went like the easy one. I haven’t tried using it with either my LG enV2 or Moto Q9c, but I’m happy to lose the wires to dictate notes with Dragon.

4 Stars Works well, software is a bit annoying
I installed this on my Dell laptop, which is running XP SP3. The installation process worked fine, and I was able to transfer files to a cell phone with no problems. Everything else about the device itself seems to be just fine.

The issue I have is with the WIDCOMM software that comes with it. There’s an annoying desktop icon which can’t be easily removed and a service that starts automatically upon startup that is also not easy to disable. I realize that a lot of people just want something like this to work and be immediately accessible all the time, but others of us would like to use it on-demand and not have extra icons and crap running on our computers constantly.

If anyone’s interested, the desktop icon can be removed by deleting the following registry key:

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\desktop\namespace\6af09… (delete the item that starts with 6af09…). Others have reported success using Windows desktop cleanup wizard, but this didn’t work for me. The service can be disabled by through msconfig. That’s what I did, and now I just run the BTTray.exe file in C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software whenever I want to use it.

5 Stars Can’t beat it for the price
I bought this to replace one of my older adapters. The one this replaced was about 4 years old and I had lost the drivers for it, but was still able to use it with the M$ BT stack. This one beats it in every way other than it’s class 2 vs class 1. This was no big deal for me since my priority was throughput over range. I mainly use it to tether my phone to my laptop for EVDO service. My old adapter would only connect at 1.0 Mbps. Not bad, but it was bottlenecking my speed. This adapter connects at 2.1 Mbps, so the actual connection is faster and I’m sure the EDR helps with the throughput. The adapter says it will connect up 3.0 Mbps, so I guess my phone tops out at 2.1. It says it also supports Sactternet and connections with up to 7 other active slave devices. I haven’t had a chance to test this feature yet, but would come in handy if I were to also use a headset, A2DP, mouse, and keyboard at the same time.

Range seems about right. I got about 30ft (and that’s with 2 walls and a washer/dryer in between) before the connection became intermittent. For those wondering why this is not a class 1 it’s probably because there is trade-off when it comes to range. You can ether have more range or more throughput at the expense of the other. I don’t think there are any class 1 adapters that are also v2 + EDR.

I noticed someone else say that it did not just work out of the box. For it to just work, it would have to be compatible with M$’s BT stack (I don’t know if this one is, I didn’t even try it). Even if it worked, I’ve always found M$’s BT stack to be a little lacking in features and settings. If you get this, do yourself a favor and use it with the included drivers (which are Widcomm 5.1, btw). Important thing with BT drivers is to run the install shell before connecting the adapter. Just follow the instructions, they are refreshingly very clear.

Plugged it into my Linux machine. Absolutely no problems; drivers worked the first time. I was able to transfer contacts and pictures to my cell phone and my wife’s cell phone.

Ear piece linked up to phone (Motorola Pebble) easily–after being a little concerned about needing a code, but it wasn’t needed. Charged the unit using the magnetic base–somehow it was mispositioned–had to start again. Be sure to keep track of all the pieces—I almost lost the ear-tips that were wrapped in small clear plastic.

This is my first bluetooth headset and I love it. It’s lightweight,and yet performs better than I could have hoped for. The sound quality is good, and so far, no one has guessed that I am using this headset during calls though quite a few are impressed when they find out. Of course it looks great too, a small, sleek design that looks a lot better than some of these giant black globs I see others wearing. I also like the charge case–it’s really handy for storing the headset when not in use.

I’m so glad I bought this Bluetooth headset! It’s cute, it has a case to keep it safe in my purse, and it works great! It seems that the only time the person I’m talking to has a hard time hearing me (and/or vice versa) is when my cell is lacking in signal strength.

Hardware seems to work well, price is very reasonable, but bundled software and drivers are terrible. If running Vista, I suggest you don’t run the included CD and just let Vista load its own drivers…

5 Stars Good for the price
Works fine with Windows. Don’t loose your driver disc b/c finding drivers were a challenge for me when I used my adapter at the in-law’s house but did not bring the driver disc. Also mark the disc b/c the disc title is pretty generic. Is this the driver disc for my other Bluetooth adapter or this one???

Just plugged it in a computer running free Mint Linux Elyssa and KDE recognized it with built-in Linux drivers (the Windows driver disc is not necessary). Free Mandriva 2008.1 did not last time I checked. Your mileage may vary.

Mint Linux allows me to set it up (all mouse point and click) so that as I approach my computer carrying a Bluetooth enabled device such as my Nokia or PalmTX it will unlock the screensaver. When I leave again it relocks. I continue to be very impressed with free Linux operating systems.

I have tested it with a generic bluetooth OBDII dongle, Motorola S9 headphones, a Nokia N810 Linux powered handheld computer, and a Palm Pilot TX and Zire 72.

5 Stars works with Vista
The product description does not say anything about Vista, but on the package when I received it says Vista. Tried to install it by letting Vista load it’s drivers but it didnt’ work so used the cd. Initially it didn’t seem to work, but the next day the Bluetooth icon appeared and I was able to successfully connect from my laptop to my bluetooth stereo. Bluetooth 2.0. Great item for the price.

2 Stars Does not work with Vista
I bought this to use a bluetooth headset with skype and to transfer files between my phone. I’ve been unable to do either. I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit and though windows can find a default driver for the USB device there are no drivers for anything Bluetooth peripheral you might try to connect. The software, even the latest version downloaded from the manufacturer, crashes the instant vista boots preventing you from using any bluetooth device with your computer.

I tried the same thing on XP and it worked fine. The software installed like it was supposed to and I could pair my devices with it. The problem is I don’t use XP on my main computer and this means the device is almost worthless to me. At least I didn’t pay too much for it.

4 Stars Making profit in shipping charges.
The product works quite well. I have already used a couple of these units for instrument control. I have no issues with the units. I purchase 5 then a couple minutes later I purchased 15 more for a total of 20 units. My issue is with mailing. The vendor charged a per / piece shipping charge. For the fifteen units I was charged $34.95 for the items and $46.25 for shipping. For the five piece order I was charged $11.65 for the items and $16.75 for shipping and handling. The total shipping for twenty units came to $63.00. All twenty units were shipped in a single box for $5.55. The result is a 74% profit and a $57.45 shipping and handling charge for a small book box that only weighs under a pound.

No one will take responsibility for this error. I have been gathering and sorting this out. When I picked this package up from the post office I showed the counter clerk this information. I was told that if I was charged a per piece price that there should have been 20 receipts, twenty tracking and insurance slips and twenty packages. Placing 5 units in a bag inside a box with 15 other units and charging a per piece price is not right. I would advise buyers to always check their bills and see what was charged for what. I do not think that Using the United States Postal Service for making a profit is right. Do you?

5 Stars Pretty amazing printer for the size
I travel overseas and somethins need to leave a signed or marked up hard copy with the people I am visiting. After looking at all the small ink printed I could not find one that would fit in a computer bag and always work after being in storage for weeks. This tiny thermal printer soves all the problems. It easily fits in your computer bag. It can be stored for weeks or months and will not have the ink dry out. It makes a acceptable B&W print of documents, photos or drawings.

I have had it for almost three years and still love it.

It should be charged after each day of use and printing photos will use the battery up in about 5 sheets.

2 Stars It Works
I purchased this printer because I travel a lot and really liked the idea of not having to lug around not only a larger printer but a power adapter as well. It worked okay, but I really can’t say much more for it than that. The battery life was shorter than I expected (only got me through about 25 pages rather than 100) and the print quality was about what you would expect from a thermal printer — just adequate.

That said, I did not return it, as it is a great size and weight. As long as you don’t set your expectations too high and you’ll be satisfied.

It printer is very light an easy to use, decent quality. The only cons is the lack of easy support to use it with vist using bluetooth. It’s expensive too. If you travel a lot it worth.
